When I was on the Food Network I had a co-star that seemed to always be my competition. We were constantly being considered for the same talk show appearances, promotional opportunities, and spokesperson gigs. Every time he would get the job I felt like my world was collapsing, like somehow he was winning at life and I wasn't. Every time I got the gig it felt like someone threw me a life preserver after falling overboard in the middle of the ocean.
"Comparison is the thief of joy". My friend Candice shared this quote in a prosperity class I was attending. When I heard this it felt like the skies parted and light shined directly on me. Whenever I put myself in competition with my colleague, comparing his attributes to my own, I would suffer. She went on to remind me that there's absolutely no way anyone can have what is ours to experience. My good is my good and their good is their good. So, we can celebrate our friends' success because it's their's to enjoy. The Universe works in perfect order and this includes career opportunities.
When I really GOT this, it felt so freeing. There's an infinite amount of good to go around, why would I worry about not getting mine? And why would I withhold anything from someone who does the same thing I do? I have my path and they have their path, we should uplift and support one another. When we do this, we work with the Law Of Giving and Receiving. We're all one, so whenever I give to another, I also receive.
Today, I do my best to practice radical generosity. I know that whatever I withhold will be withheld from me. Plus, only the ego would try to convince me that in order to give something away, I have to lose something in return. There's no sacrifice in Love so I give from the heart.
Give to give! Give because you can. Celebrate everyone's good and continue to move towards the things that feel inspiring to you. No one can get your good - it's yours! So in-joy all the experiences life brings to you and be happy for others when something awesome comes their way. They've earned it ... and so have you.
